In less than two months, about 1,200 of the most influential people in wind energy will gather for CanWEA 2019, the largest national wind energy conference and exhibition.
CanWEA is the meeting place for Canada’s wind energy industry, and the networking event of the year — but prime exhibition space is filling up quickly.
If you’re still sitting on the fence … or if you’ve been putting off the decision over the summer, we totally get it. Life is busy, and we’ve been soaking up the sun, too!
But time is running out, and you need to reserve your space in the exhibition hall today.
In this article, we’ll explore six reasons why exhibiting at CanWEA 2019 is essential for growing your network and building your brand.
1. Valuable face-to-face time with clients and influencers
At CanWEA 2019, we emphasize connection — with business executives, decision-makers, influencers, and future clients.
You won’t find a better opportunity to meet with such an influential crowd this year, and as an exhibitor you’ll get to speak with them face-to-face.
“There’s a lot of interactions,” said Harjeet Johal, vice-president of energy infrastructure at Measure, an aerial intelligence company that is exhibiting at CanWEA 2019 this year.
“That really helps in understanding the customer requirements, and being able to positively describe ourselves and the technology.”
Measure uses drones to inspect wind farms across the U.S. and Canada, with a major presence in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, and Quebec.
“I would without hesitation say that exhibition and having face-to-face time is the best value that we can [see],” he said.
2. Generate new business and expand your network
Can we be honest? CanWEA is loads of fun, but you’re mainly here to do business. And business happens on the exhibition hall floor.
That’s another key reason Measure is exhibiting this year, as it tries to expand its presence in the Canadian market.
“We saw a lot of success in the U.S., and then naturally started exploring the market in Canada, and we got a lot of good responses back,” said Johal.
“It became of interest to be talking to more and more companies and wind farms in Canada.”
Measure attends several trade shows in the United States, but CanWEA 2019 is the only Canadian wind energy conference where it plans to exhibit this year.
“All of the conferences we’ve gone to … it certainly has generated a lot of business opportunities for us,” said Johal.
“I think we doubled the number of wind farms we inspected in 2018-2019 in Canada. It goes to show that the market is ripe.”
3. See the latest technology
The latest innovations in wind energy will be on display at CanWEA 2019, from leading companies like 3M, Olympus, and NRG Systems, among many others.
Measure plans to bring at least one of the high-level drones it uses to inspect wind turbine blades and funnel data to customers who use it to maintain their wind farms.
“The other benefit is understanding where the market competition is — from walking around the exhibit hall, getting a feel by talking to the customers or other general attendees,” said Johal.
“So that’s also an important idea — understanding the competitive landscape of the country.”
4. Develop new products and services, and improve existing ones
Innovation happens at CanWEA.
It’s a natural product of gathering some of the industry’s sharpest minds in one place, and conversations that happen in the exhibit hall often lead to new products and services.
That has been the case for Measure at several trade shows in the U.S., and something the company anticipates at CanWEA this year as well.
“I think that’s a natural offshoot of the discussions we have with the customers,” said Johal.
“We often come back with three or four good ideas about how we can improve the product.”
5. Hear from the industry’s leading experts
CanWEA’s plenary sessions and smaller presentations gather thought leaders from across the industry to share ideas on the most pressing issues, including:
The future of Canada’s electricity grid;
- Next steps for existing wind infrastructure — repowering, decommissioning and reclamation;
- Boosting operational strategies through experience; and
- Building better community relationships, among many other topics.
“I think there certainly is a lot of value, having an intellectual group of speakers to be present at the conference,” said Johal.
6. See our roadmap for the future of wind energy
At CanWEA 2019 we’ll focus on the big picture of wind energy in Canada — where have we come from, where are we going, and how do industry leaders plan to get there?
This road map is crucial for all partners in Canada’s clean energy transition, and another reason Measure is exhibiting this year.
“Having that international presence helps to understand the industry in Canada and where the industry may be progressing,” said Johal.
“What’s the roadmap, what are the regulations and the commercial advancement of the industry?”
The Bottom Line
CanWEA 2019 is an unrivalled opportunity to connect with influencers, establish yourself as an industry leader, increase your profile, and grow your brand.
“I think trade shows are a great way to exchange thoughts and ideas, in addition to selling services,” said Johal.
“I would encourage all the wind farm owners, asset managers, to come in and understand the market landscape from what a vendor has to offer.
“It’s a Disneyland for all the vendors, because they get to present the technology and get direct market feedback, intelligence, and business opportunities to bring back to the company.
“It works both ways.”
